Ulavacharu Biryani Review

Movie: Ulavacharu Biryani
Rating: 2.5/5
Banner: Prakash Raj Productions, Creative Commercials
Cast: Prakash Raj, Sneha, Tejas, Samyuktha, Bramhaji, M S Narayana and Others
Music: Illayaraja
Editor: Kishore
Cinematographer: Preetha Producer,
Direction: Prakash Raj
Release Date: June 6th, 2014

Prakash Raj is one of the most recognized south actors in the country. He has pleased both the masses and critics over the years in various languages and won the national award for his acting. Of course like all seasoned actors, he decided to extend his horizons and got into direction with Akasamantha in Kannada. Later, he went on to direct Dhoni in Telugu. Through the film did not do well at the box office, it did not stop him from directing his latest venture Ulavacharu Biryani which is a remake of the Malayalam film Salt ‘N’ Pepper.

 Story:

Kalidasu(Prakash Raj) is a 45-year-old bachelor and Gowri (Sneha) is in her 30s and unmarried. Due to a wrong connection, they end up talking with each other. Over a period of time, they become phone buddies but they avoid meeting each other. Finally, one day, they decide to meet each other. Oblivious of each other’s age, they fear that they might put off each other. So, they send their proxies (Tejas and Samyukta) instead. While the young lovers fall for each other, differences crop up between Kalidasu and Gowri. Will they finally meet? Will they sort out their differences?

Artistes’ Performances:

Honestly, there is nothing new to write about Prakash Raj. He has excelled in whatever character he has played till now be that of a father, grandfather or a bachelor like in Ulavacharu Biryani. He emotes rather well as a middle-aged bachelor and his expressions help us understand the thinking of the character. Well, he is surely among the few actors who can play their characters with ease. And Prakash Raj once again emerges a winner as far as his acting goes. Sneha puts up a performance on par with Prakash Raj. Her dressing perfectly suits the character she plays. Tejas and Samyukta are just about okay. On the other hand, senior artistes Ishwarya and Urvasi put in good performances. Brahmaji’s characterization is interesting and he plays his usual self. MS Narayana succeeds in evoking a few laughs.

Technical Excellence:

The music for the film is by maestro Ilayaraja. But he disappoints by making music that is below his range. In fact, the maestro is known to never compromise on background music. But in Ulavacharu Biryani, he disappoints. Cinematography is quite good. A special mention has to be made of frames where the cinematographer captures food. They almost make your mouth water. Editing has quite a few loopholes, especially in the second half where a few links go missing. Though a remake, the story is interesting. While the film was a hit in Malayalam, some of its flavour has been lost while being remade in Telugu. Unfortunately, the writers fail to retain the original spirit and you feel that they should have been more careful about the seasoning. Last, but not the least, Prakash Raj as the director is just about average. Had the same film made by a more seasoned director, he would have done maximum justice to the plot. Prakash manages to come up with some sparkling scenes in the first half. But he falls flat in the second half. In his earlier film Dhoni, he fails both as an actor and director. But in Ulavacharu Biryani, he gives superlative performance as an actor, but fails as a director in key scenes.

Highlights:

  • Prakash Raj’s acting
  • Light, romantic scenes during the first half
  • Cinematography

Drawbacks:

  • Screenplay goes off the track in second half Climax

Analysis: It’s not everyday that one gets to see a clean love story revolving around two middle-aged people. However, apart from clean romance and the feel-good factor, Ulavacharu Biryani does not offer anything new. While director-actor Prakash Raj manages to capture the nuances of a middle-aged couple, he fails to ignite the passion between the younger couple. It is obvious that Prakash Raj did not bother to understand the younger generation before coming up with the characters of Tejas and Samyuktha. On the other hand, he etches out the interactions between himself and Sneha beautifully. Another glaring faux pas is the inclusion of a ‘adavi manishi’ or jungle man track which is lame. Also, Prakash Raj fails to give this sub-plot a clean ending. It ends abruptly, making the viewing a bit jerky. Also, the climax scenes involving Sneha and Prakash Raj have been dealt with superficially. In all, the love and affection with which Prakash Raj starts making his biryani, are missing by the time he wraps up the film. Unfortunately, his biryani does not taste as good as it smells. It is clear that he had lost interest somewhere along the way. So, the audience is served an uncooked Ulavacharu Biryani.

Bottomline: It’s like uncooked biryani -

Julayi Movie Review

Cast: Allu Arjun, Ileana
Genre: Action – Romance
Language: Telugu
Director: Trivikram Srinivas
Producer: D.V.V.Danaiah
Music Director: Devi Sri Prasad

Ratings: 3/5

Story:
Ravi (Allu Arjun), young and dynamic boy dreams big and aims to earn quick money. Ravi takes Rs Ten thousand from his father (Tanikella) promising him earning Rs One lakh in two hours leaves the house to go to a betting pub. Bittu(Sonu Sood) who also loves to earn quick money plans to loot Rs 1500 cr from a local bank in Vizag with the help of MLA Varada Rajulu( Kota).
Ravi requests a ride and gets it from Bittu and co. who are on their way to loot the bank. Ravi quickly realizes the gang’s motto but keeps it with himself and gets down at pub. When police commissioner raids the pub, Ravi discloses them about Bittu gang plan.
Police commissioner along with Ravi locates the money truck. Realising the fact that police are behind him, Bittu brother Shafiq hides the money in dump yard before gets killed by Ravi in an effort to save the police commissioner.
Now, Bittu who was arrested by police escapes the jail and on the lookout for Ravi to take revenge. Rest of the story is all about ego clashes between Ravi and Bittu before locating the stolen money.
Performance:
Allu Arjun justified his role as dynamic and intelligent young boy. Needless to say he showed his energetic dancing skills. But the role didn’t have the scope to showcase his acting skills.
Ileana is big disappointment as heroine. She is too skinny to the liking of Tollywood audience. Acting aside, glamour quotient too is missing in her role.
Sonu Sood is routine in antagonist role. Rajendra Prasad acted in a rather less prominent role. Kota, Rao Ramesh, Tanikella Bharani, Dharmavarapu, Brahmaji,Tulasi, Hema and Pragathi justified their roles.
Brahmanandam and MS Narayana are OK in comedy department. Ali and Vennela Kishore appear in “miss if you blink” roles.
Udaya Bhanu one minute dance surely fetches her more chances as item girl.
Analysis:
Audience had lot of expectations on this crazy combination of Allu Arjun and Trivikram Srinivas. The movie takes off well but fails to maintain the same tempo in the second half. First half is entertaining while the second half runs on predictable note with slow pace.
We are not sure how Trivikram defends about total police department following the instructions of Allu Arjun where he is an ordinary young boy. The action sequences are so stupid and definitely don’t expect them from director like Trivikram. Too many characters with no are limited footage spoiled the movie. Though the dialogues are good, comedy from Brahmanadam and MS Narayana are bit disappointing. Trivikram failed to utilize the glamor of Ileana, not even in songs. Allu Arjun charecterisation is one dimensional and lacks different shades. Lack of drama may also hamper the chances of family audience turn out to the movie.
Final Verdict:
On the whole, the movie appeals to those who like Trivikram mark comedy. Watch this Julayi Once

Performance:
Pawan Kalyan has undergone Robinhood style of character for the first time in his career, His action as Rowdy Police is Mind-Blowing.His dances, action sequences, comedy carried the  complete grip of the movie.Sruthi Hassan as village girl is good. She added colors to the screen with her fresh looks and beauty. Suhasini and Nagineedu are good upto their mark. Ajay has given best performance after Vikramarkudu it would be better if his character is elevated to some more extent.Abhimanyu Singh is the boon for this movie. He is going to be the one of the best actor for negative roles in South India.Comedy by Brahmanandam as ‘Recovery agent Ranjith Kumar’, Ali as ‘constable samba’ is hilarious.
Technical:
Director Harish Shankar taking is excellent, He elevated the heroism at the same time handled the story, though Harish Shankar added some dose over these scenes but still he proved himself to be among top league directors.Music by DSP  is really awesome for the movie ,Kevvu keka would be the mother of all item songs for years ,Re recording ,Back ground is good. Fights by Ram Laxman especially the pre interval and climax fight , editing by Gautam Raju is good, Dialogues were good . Screenplay was perfect.Cinematography is outstanding and the film has great visuals. In particular, the songs shot in Europe are beautiful and DI work is impressive.
Analysis:
Though this movie is the remake of Dabbang we will not find the most of the similarities with that movie. Some major changes in the story has been made in entertaining way. 40% of the story has been changed as per the nativity of the telugu audience. The duration of first half is around one hour. It totally runs in speed pace without boring for half second. The first half of the movie will be the best ever for PK fans.
Interval fight at railway station is good.
Coming to second half the movie gets into some emotional scenes and gets slow down as the depth in the story is being evaluated.
The highlights are
  • Pawan Kalyan entrance on horse is extra-ordinary. The first fight is superb.
  • Pawan Kalyan enters into market in Rikshaw which has back ground song “Ee petaku nene mesthri” is quite entertaining.
  • Love scenes are romantic and good.
  • Anthyakshari scene in Police Station is hilarious.
  • Songs are picturized in stylish manner with complete mass formula.
  • Kevv keka song adds energy during pre-climax.
  • Climax is nothing but one word Awesome.

Producer : K A Vallabha
Director : Boyapaati Sreenu
Music : Keeravani

Jr NTR Dammu is one of the Most Expected Movies of this Season….Because of a Tremendous Combination pairs over here i.e.., Nothing But Jr NTR and Hard Hitter Boyapaati Sreenu

Positives
Jr NTR
Superb Dialogues by Jr NTR
Comedy Placement Excellent
Ruler Song
Introduction Scene
Interval Scene

Negatives
Boyapaati Over Confidence
20 Dialouges are Censored by Censor Board Which is a Main Drawback of the Movie
Not a Public Expected Story
Heroines
Screenplay – Story Dealing

Performances

Jr NTR

Jr NTR The Complete Energy in the Movie and One more time he proves it by Action, Emotion and Comedy Roles Well in the Movie.Only Jr NTR Leads by his Performance in this movie.Dances are Up to the Movie..Jr NTR is Rocks in Ruler Song Which is one of the Big Assert of the Movie. He is Awesome in that Song..The Costumes are also good in that Song..Jr NTR Looks More Glamorous than Heroines in Some Scenes. NTR Shows a Fabulous Expressions in Comedy Takes..Dialouges are the big assert of the Movie..We know that Jr NTR is Good and Great Dialouge Teller in the Telugu Industry…He Already proves in Some many Movies. In this also NTR Expressions and Action Over Dialouge Scenes are Amazing and Getting Huge Response From the Public….In the Censor of the Movie Nearly 20 Dailouges are cutted and Changed..It is a Big Drawback to the Movie and For Fans..The Interval Dialouge’s  Emotion is Great by Jr NTR

Heroines

Trisha and Karthika..They acted well up to their Chacrecter in the Movie..Mainly Karthika Tried to Carry Emotion with Jr NTR in One Scene and She Fails There…That is Not only Her Mistake that happens by the Bad Screenplay.Trisha is Less Beautiful in this movie when Compared to her Old Movies..Finally Better Thing For Trisha is to Stop Movies as Quick as Well Because she is looking elder than Hot Cake Hero’s..Karthika has to learn more and more in acting and Dances..Finally Heroines are the Small Minus For the Movie

Director

Great Director Comes to and End With his Over Confidence….. I think why he Expected this type of story with NTR.NTR is an all rounder in the telugu industry…He fails to Narrate NTR.He Failed in all Concepts Like Story Selection, Carrying Emotion, Taking and Screenplay..But For Dammu--Boyapaati Forget the Public Pulse.Fight Choreography is very Nice in All the Action Secqunes…

Final Word 100% Jr NTR Movie..For Fans..

Neeku Naaku Dash Dash Movie Review

Rating: 2.75/5
Banner:
 Bhavya Creations
Cast: Prince, Nanditha, Chowdary, Suman Shetty and others
Music: Yeshwant Nag
Background score: Anup Rubens
Editor: Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao
Cinematographer: Rasool Ellore
Story, Narration, Direction: Teja
Producer: Anand Prasad
Release date: 13/04/2012
Director Teja is back after a hiatus of four years and yet again he has brought in a team of fresh faces for his venture. Slated to be a romantic treat with thriller elements let us see how this is
StorySiva (Prince) is a honest young man who doesn’t like lying at all. However, due to a loan taken by his friend and Siva giving surety, he is compelled to discontinue his studies and go to Hyderabad to take up a job. This is at the illegal liquor manufacturing unit of the dreaded Bapineedu (Chowdary).
A lot of young men and women are working and it is here that Siva chances upon Gayathri (Nandita) a rather bubbly but bold girl. Few incidents occur which make Gayathri fall in love with Siva and after some time even Siva also reciprocates. The illegal liquor mafia runs on fear and anyone who does a mistake or opposes gets killed. A small misunderstanding results in the death of Siva’s co-worker. Unable to take that guilt, Siva decides to redeem his sin. Meanwhile, the affair of Siva- Gayatri gets leaked and things go worse. What happens from there forms the rest of the story.
PerformancesPrince looks decent and he has given an underplayed performance. Though it is not an impact creating act, he suited the character perfectly and did full justice to it.
Nandita looks naturally seductive and she has that domestic beauty which would appeal to many native audiences. She has shown good potential and has the ability to rise as a promising actress.
Chowdary has given an apt performance as the villain. Though he was loud at few instance, his expressions and body language were adequate. The dubbing part was good for his role.
Banerjee was strong and intense again. For some reason, he is one actor who has not got his due recognition. Given his effective screen presence and the toughness, he deserves more meaty roles.
Theertha has shown her natural performance and she is a good package of wildness and raw beauty. Her boldness and rustic act has given an effective contribution to her role.
Suman Shetty gave a good performance and made his presence felt. Venu was impressive. Paruchuri Venkateshwara Rao was perfect. Bhasha was regular. The others didn’t have much to offer except fill the screen.
Highlights
  • Narration
  • Cinematography
  • Background score
  • Interval bang
Drawbacks
  • First thirty minutes
  • Irrelevant/silly comedy sequences
  • Eccentricity in few scenes
  • Fluctuation in second half
Analysis
When a film from director Teja is coming, there are few things that can be expected for sure- intensity, eccentricity, rawness, immature comedy and racy sequences.
When this film was arriving, many were skeptical whether Teja is still having that creative juice in him or has he gone out of form. Well, it appears that he has not lost his touch yet. Equipped with a good set of technicians and the grip over screenplay, Teja has given a film that will keep the audience engaged for the two plus hours duration.
Subject and content wise, there is nothing new or innovative, the first half hour reminds many of the dubbed film ‘Shopping Mall’ and the only difference is the backdrop. However, though the film takes off on a mild note, it starts picking up the heat as it progresses and gets into some serious stuff, especially during the interval bang.
The second half begins with the same momentum but here comes the Teja mark. There are those shades of ‘Paithyam’ he shows and suddenly amidst a serious scene, a comedy sequence comes in place or the lead pair break into a romantic song in flower gardens when they are chased by hardcore goons. Also, the song denoting the love between the lead pair is more like an act of lust and desire without any sensitivity. This has been the hiccup with Teja films. There is a certain flavour in it and only a selected set of audience can understand these variations.
Overall, given the budget involved and the way the film has been made, the film will easily strike profits at the box office. Since there is not much threat of other releases, this should have a smooth run.
Bottomline: Passable and ‘Dash Dash’ entertainer!!

::: Ram Charan Racha Review :::

Film: Racha
Rating: 2.75/5
Banner:
 Mega Supergood Films
Cast: Ram Charan Tej, Tamannah, Mukesh Rishi and others
Music: Mani Sharma
Cinematographer: Sameer Reddy
Editing: Gautham Raju
Story, screenplay, direction: Sampath Nandi
Producers: N V Prasad, Paras Jain
Release date: 05/04/2012

Ram Charan Tej is back after a brief hiatus and he has taken a risk of sorts by teaming up with a budding director like Sampath Nandi. Let us see how this has worked.

Story
Betting Raj (Charan) hails from a slum and true to his name, he is known for winning bets. But all the money got from there is used for a good cause. But in truth, he happens to be the son of Suryanarayana (Parthiepan) a big man of Rayapuram village who is killed along with his family. Raj escapes by chance and is brought up by another couple (MS Narayana, Sudharani).

The story takes a turn when his guardian suffers a heartstroke and 20 lakhs is required for operation. In comes James (Ajmal) who keeps losing bets with Raj. He is ready to give the money but the bet is Raj should woo and make Chaitra (Tamannah) say ‘I Love You’ in 30 days. But Chaitra is the daughter of the notorious and powerful Bellary (Mukesh Rishi).

So what happens to the love challenge of Raj? What is his connection with Chaitra? Who is Bellary? All this forms the rest of the story.

Performances
Ram Charan has developed a strong screen presence and he has put full efforts. If only his characterization was strong he would have given a power packed impact. But his fans would be happy with this.

Tamannah gave the required visual feast in songs and her glamour quotient has been on a high. There was not much scope for performance this time but her screen time is good.

Mukesh Rishi was apt for the role. His personality is still intact and he seems to look the same right from the time of ‘Indra’. It is time Mukesh starts using his own voice for dubbing.

Parthiepan and Ajmal were not required given their roles. But since the film is releasing in Tamil the makers seem to have taken them for nativity purpose.
Brahmanandam, Srinivas Reddy, Tagubothu Ramesh, Ali were there for the comedy scenes but it was not that appealing. Kota was usual. M S Narayana was serious this time. Paruchuri Venkateswara Rao was brief. Dev Gill was okay. The others didn’t have much to offer.

Highlights
  • Charan’s performance and Tamannah’s glamour
  • Picturization of songs
  • Production values
  • Commercial elements
Drawbacks
  • Outdated storyline
  • Ordinary script
  • Overdose dialogues of praising Mega family
  • Routine formula
  • No gripping moments
Analysis
Watching the film never makes you feel that you are watching a big ticket venture starring a big hero. It is a story which suits even a B-grade hero.
Given the star image of Charan and the expectations on him and the film, the story was bound to be strong with a strong depth and gripping twists but it is not so. Though the title sounds powerful, it is a routine formula line with no variation. You have the regular half dozen fights, half dozen songs, itsy bitsy comedy scenes, one sentiment which is half baked, a supposedly romantic track which was created only to justify the presence of heroine.

On a whole director Sampath Nandi made a sheer attempt to impress Ram Charan and his family with this movie but not loyal to his story line or acumen.

Comedy by Ali brought some laughs but that failed to sustain with more scenes. Same is the case with Brahmanandam episode and Krishna Bhagawan’s part.

While all that is one side, the dialogues form a crucial aspect for these projects. But here again, Paruchuri Brothers ended up spilling the ink with ‘Self-Dabba’ lines and fingering the Nandamuri clan. Here are few examples:

“Otami ante ento teliyani Genes naadhi” - This will prompt the mega fans to recollect Chiranjeevi’s defeat at Palakollu, disconnecting from the movie for sometime.

“Edho Chuskuni Thodalu Kotte type kaaduraa nenu” –

Listening to the dialogue, the audience started discussing, “The reference to this needs no explanation. Well, it’s like a retort for Balakrishna’s dialogue in Simha referring ‘buradha vamsham’”. That’s how dialogues rubbed wrong side in many ways.

Given their experience, this is not the quality of dialogues expected. On the other hand, it is very natural that the Nandamuri fans will come to watch the movie to check its weight. But due to dialogues like these, it would lead to negative publicity and audience percentage will come down.
The director was careful not to experiment and went blindly following a commercial formula. That has hampered the strength of the script. The production values are of high quality but it is definitely not matching the image of Charan or has that velocity to give a kick to the masses.
At the box office, this will be a treat to the hardcore fans of mega family and it could scrape through as decent grosser but hit is ruled out.

Verdict: Neither Good Nor Dud
