Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy will inaugurate the month-long Mango Mela-2012 at Exhibition Grounds at Nampally on Friday.
The Mango Mela is being organised by the Department of Horticulture in association with the Economic Committee of Exhibition Society. The Horticulture minister Ramreddy Venkatreddy will also participate in the mela.
The main features of Mango Mela 2012 are display and sale of different varieties of non-carbide mangoes, bringing awareness among farmers, consumers and general public about harmful effects of use of calcium carbide for ripening of fruits.
The mela will also focus on providing incentives of value addition to the farmers for mango ripening with ethylene - harvesting in plastic crates, ripening in ethylene chambers at identified locations of Vijayawada, West Godavari and Hyderabad.
A number of progressive farmers from various districts will participate in this Mango Mela. Arrangements have been made for display and sale of non-carbide Mangoes in 45 stalls.
The mela will be conducted in three phases. Under the Ist phase farmers from Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, East Godavari, West Godavari, Krishna and Khammam Districts will participate.
Swagatham, Pandurivari Mamidi, Chinna Rasalu, Pedda Rasalu, Cheruku Rasalu, Suvarnarekha, Panukulu, Panchadarakalasa, Himayath, Pickle varieties will be displayed.
Under the Phase-II to be held from April 24 to May 3, farmers from Guntur, Nellore, Warangal, Karimnagar, Medak, Nizamabad, Adilabad and Ranga Reddy Districts will participate. Banginapalli, Chinna Rasalu, Pedda Rasalu, Cheruku Rasalu, Bangalore, Kesari, Dasheri, Himayath varieties will be displayed.
The third phase will be held from May 4 to May 14 during which the third phase farmers from Mahabubnagar, Nalgonda, Kurnool, Anantapur, Chittoor, Kadapa and Prakasam Districts will participate. Banginapalli, Bangalore, Alphanso, Khader, Neelam, Neelesan, Rumani varieties will be displayed.
