Rajampeta MP and former minister Sai Pratap vehemently opposed the decision taken by the State Congress leaders to launch a tirade against late Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy in order to cut Jagan to size.
Addressing media persons in Kadapa, Sai Pratap, a staunch loyalists of YSR family, said that he would not campaign in the ensuing by-poll targeting his friend late YS Rajasekhara Reddy.
He threw a gauntlet at the detractors of Jagan, who levelled allegations of corruption against the YSRCP leader, to come clean on their own assets.
'How can I campaign targeting YSR when he had launched many welfare schemes in Kadapa district and strove for its development?
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and AICC president Sonia Gandhi said that the welfare schemes launched by late YSR had reached people across the State, he recalled.
'If we go for campaign in the villages targeting YSR it would spell doom for the Congress. If we assume that we would get posts if we flay YSR, I am even ready to quit the MP post,' he said.
He recalled the discussion he had with senior Congress leader K Keshav Rao, who reportedly told him that they should bring Jagan back to the Congress fold.
The Congress party was facing difficulty with the reported denial of Sai Pratap not to campaign in the forthcoming by-elections which would be held in three Assembly constituencies under his Parliamentary constituency.
