A day after the incidents of communal violence, the Old City has remained tense but peaceful on Monday.
The City Police indicated that the curfew in Madannapet and Saidabad police limits might continue for another three days.
However, the City Police has forcibly closed all the shops and establishments in the entire Old City on Monday.
Heavy security forces have been deployed in all the areas in the twin cities, especially in the sensitive locations. Patrolling has been intensified even in the lanes and by-lanes of the city.
Home Minister P Sabitha Indira Reddy inspected the violence hit areas of the Old City and assured action against the culprits.
Meanwhile, the City Police on Monday arrested five persons in connection with the incidents of communal violence in the Old City.
Addressing a press conference on Monday evening, East Zone DCP Y Gangadhar said that some communal minded people kept legs of a cow at the doors of Hanuman Temple situated at Kurmaguda and also sprinkled green colour on the door steps and walls in order to flare-up communal tension between the two communities.
The DCP said that during the riots, people from both the communities gathered and pelted stones at Kurmaguda and Zakir Hussain Colony causing damage to some persons and private properties.
In this regard, 11 cases have been registered at Saidabad Police Station. The police has arrested five people on Monday and remanded them to judicial custody.
The arrested accused persons are - Syed Javeed (26), Imran Bin Omar (20), Mohammad Abdul Junaidi (24), M Santosh (21) and M Raju (25).
Earlier, while addressing a press conference at the State Secretariat, Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy said that the government was seriously considering installation of 5,000 cameras on the streets of twin cities to keep a tab on the movement of anti-social and communal elements. He said the proposal has been sent to the Finance Department for opinion.
